Stillness & Motion: Sculpture Collection Debut at BOLTBOLT (Gallery)

Stillness & Motion: Sculpture Collection Debut at BOLTBOLT (Gallery)

This week, in the heart of the Los Angeles Arts District, BOLTBOLT (Gallery) opens its doors.

Timed with the creative energy of the LA Design Festival, our launch collection brings together two studios whose works explore presence in entirely different ways—through softness and precision, dream and engineering, breath and mechanics.

At the core is contrast. But it’s not a conflict.
It’s a conversation between material, intent, and feeling.

BOLTBOLT (Gallery) Grand Opening

A Gallery Built for Objects That Speak

BOLTBOLT (Gallery) is more than a showroom—it’s a curated space for ideas made physical. The debut curation, titled Stillness & Motion, features two visionary studios at the edge of contemporary object design:

  • AWHITE, a soft sculpture artist whose creatures carry a surreal stillness

  • Joy eXtreme, a design studio imagining robotic sea life from a speculative future

Each explores form in deeply different ways—but together, they frame a new direction for what sculpture can be.

Soft Creatures with Silent Stories

AWHITE doesn’t sculpt from stone, but from emotion. Their hand-sewn dragons, lizards, butterflies, and short-haired cats feel more alive than animated—captured mid-thought, mid-dream, or mid-flight.

These are not plush toys. They are still companions.

Each creature is defined by a quiet presence. A curl of a dragon’s tail that hints at something ancient. A butterfly paused mid-hover. A cat that looks away just as you look closer. A crocodile—regal, restrained, coiled like a memory from another time.

World of AWHITE

Robotic Beings from Future Oceans

Joy eXtreme brings a different energy—mechanical, mythic, and precise. Their sculptures arrive as unassembled metal kits, but each is a narrative object in disguise.

  • MR, the Mobula Ray, is a next-generation biomechanical explorer, powered by the fictional Heart of Atlantis and guided by deep-sea intelligence.

  • NAU, the Autonomous Nautilus Unit, is a coiled submersible built for long-range oceanic missions—surveying, scanning, and operating without human control.

To build them is to enter the world they come from. Each piece, once assembled, becomes a vessel of imagined motion—a kinetic fossil from a future that hasn’t happened yet.

Between Breath and Circuit

This collection sits at a rare intersection:
Softness that carries emotion. Structure that carries story.

Together, AWHITE and Joy eXtreme offer more than contrast—they offer a glimpse into how objects can hold presence, tension, and narrative at once.

As sculpture evolves, we believe it should do more than sit still.
It should ask something of us.
